Training - Question Persuade Refer (QPR)

Everyone has the potential to help prevent a suicide death

We all have a role to play in suicide prevention, including looking after ourselves and supporting each other, but it is only by working together that we can prevent suicide.

People who are experiencing suicidal thoughts may not be able to communicate their distress directly, and so warning signs may be missed or misinterpreted. And sometimes even when we know someone else is struggling, we hesitate to offer support because of worrying about saying the wrong thing or not knowing how to best help them.

Training in suicide prevention gives people the knowledge and skills to identify those who are at risk of suicide, provide them with immediate support, and connect them with services.

Whether you work in a health service, are a member of the community, or work in any other type of business, there is training that will help you feel confident to play your role in preventing suicides.

Learn the 3 steps anyone can take to save a life.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer - the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide.

QPR suicide prevention training will teach you to:

  • Identify warning signs that someone may be thinking about suicide
  • Confidently ask if someone is thinking about suicide
  • Connect them to appropriate support

Need help?

Community suicide prevention training aims to teach individuals the warnings signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. These trainings are not recommended for individuals recently bereaved by suicide, as it is not a therapy or support group, rather an education session to learn how to support others.
